Starship Troopers Fan Art

Starship Troopers by Robert A. Heinlein was one of my favorite books to read when I was young. Not only was the premise of guys in flying armored suits cool but also the delivery. Heinlein was great at describing things like radio chatter and the burden of military command in a way that made the entire read feel tangible and engaging. This is how I always imagined the MI from book. This particular soldier is barbecuing a giant arachnid with the much described hand flamer from the novel.

Space Wolves Tattoo

A friend commissioned me to paint a massive Space Marine of the Space Wolves chapter from Warhammer 40,000 so that he could tattoo it on his thigh. Being that I had a Space Wolves army as a kid I was ecstatic to paint it, though I can't imagine how much it's going to hurt being put on his leg.

The quote was also one of my favorites back from the old days of tearing through the rule book as a kid.

Note that Space Marines, Space Wolves, Warhammer 40,000, and the quote are all property of Games Workshop. This is fan art.

Siege Warfare: Greco Persian Wars

I had the honor of being one of the illustrators for Iron Maul Entertainment's next edition of their strategy card game: Siege Warfare. I had an absolute blast working on the Greco Persian Wars line and was fortunate enough to be commissioned for 7 pieces! Here are a few for your viewing pleasure and there are more to come as the game is released.

Hop over to their website, http://siegewarfare.com/ or their Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/siegewarfaregame/ to get more details on the release date. Additionally, feel free to contact me at patrickwheeler@comcast.net if you'd like any prints or commission work done.

PS: Things are moving with Atlas Wars and I have another board game on the way soon ;)

A Frog in my Pocket

This cute little guy is a commission work for a book cover- the fittingly named: "A Frog in my Pocket. It's a digital painting done with a similar color palate as Monet's "Water Lilies" at the request of the client. I started with several rough sketches of green tree frogs to get the details right before I strayed from reality and ventured into capturing the jovial nature of the face.

Predator

A good friend of mine commissioned me to draw up a massive tattoo of Predator (one of my all-time-favorite movie monsters). What a blast! It took roughly 10 hours to fully render in pencil, and features the original Predator hero suit along with the spear from Predator 2. I'll post up a picture of the finished tattoo when my friend finds an artist to ink it for him.

Magnolia's; Street View

Lately I've been working on capturing more realism and observing light and color. I did this piece in less than two hours as a paint-sketch. I believe this is a location in Charleston, South Carolina; which I visited several years ago.  Simple shapes and a recognition of color temperature as it pertains to the light source are what helps this piece come across as realistic. The flat black of the sign in the foreground makes for a surprising focal point when contrasted against the rich colors of the background. Slightly overcast light made for soft shadows as a storm front was moving out of the area while the freshly shining sun bathes the background in warm colors.

Strife

I have a number of games that are in a constant state of development and Strife is one of them (though I believe there's already a game called "Strife," so I'll probably have to get a new name). It's a modern operational combat game showcases an area movement system and a diceless combat system. It's a solid system, but it lacks a little cohesion at this point. Regardless, I wanted to put up the board and a couple of demo pieces as an example of the kind of work I can do if I have an abundance of time.
